The bodice for this dress was made by using a unique natural dye technique that transfers flower dye into the fabric. The flowers are all locally sourced from my pollinator garden and the after-products are returned to the compost. After the dye process, I carefully cut out the pattern pieces to conserve fabric and minimize waste, then sew each dress. The inner bodice lining is sewn by hand and the skirt seams are french seams to ensure a gorgeous inside as well as outside.
This dress is made to last and to be passed down through generations. The dye is color-fast. But, as with all natural dye, can dull a little with time. This can be prevented by hand-washing and keeping out of direct sunlight while drying. (Agitating in a washing machine causes the raw silk to nub and rub, changing the color of both the bodice and skirt. That said, I’ve washed my daughter’s in the washing machine, even with spot remover, and it still looks lovely.)
As with all hand-made items, there may be slight variations. These show it was made with love and add to the Wabi Sabi nature of the piece.

Hand-wash in cold with neutral soap (eco-friendly laundry detergent or a spot of dish soap). Hang to dry. After dry, can tumble in the dryer to soften up.
